Clos Roskam, Pomerol — crafted by Frans and Liz Roskam.
Each bottle reflects a disciplined pursuit of balance, precision, and respect for the living vineyard.

Clos Roskam

Clos Roskam

Clos Roskam is guided by a simple conviction: a great wine must first be true to its origin.

Each vintage reflects a precise expression of place — balance, structure, and clarity rather than excess. The approach favors patience, careful cultivation, and meticulous attention at every stage, from vineyard to cellar.

Production remains intentionally limited, allowing for exacting standards and a constant pursuit of purity and harmony. Nothing is rushed; nothing is forced. The objective is not immediate impact, but depth, finesse, and the ability to evolve with time.

Clos Roskam is crafted in this spirit — quietly, rigorously, and with respect for both tradition and the living land.

From Illinois to Pomerol

Frans & Liz Roskam

From Illinois to Pomerol

Frans Roskam comes from a family rooted for generations on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Liz, originally from Illinois, came to France for her studies, where their meeting at ESA Purpan marked the beginning of a shared path devoted to wine.

Both graduates of the Diplôme National d’Œnologie of Bordeaux, they are united by the same standard: to produce wines of precision, balance, and fidelity to origin.

After thirteen years in the Médoc, they returned to the Right Bank to establish Clos Roskam in Pomerol — an intentionally discreet estate dedicated to rigorous terroir expression and long ageing potential.

Alongside this project, Frans continues to lead Château Cantenac with his maternal family, carrying forward a winemaking heritage passed down through generations.

The 0.42-hectare vineyard is composed of four distinct parcels, each with its own characteristics. This mosaic of soils contributes nuance and complexity to the wine while preserving a clear expression of place. In keeping with the tradition of Pomerol, the vineyard is planted predominantly with Merlot.

Entirely enclosed by hedges, the property takes its name from the term clos, historically used to designate a vine parcel surrounded by natural or stone boundaries. The vines and soils are tended entirely by hand by Frans and Liz Roskam, ensuring precise and attentive cultivation at every stage.

Respect for nature.

Respect for nature.

From the very beginning, Clos Roskam has been cultivated according to organic principles, guided by the belief that great wines can only come from living soils. This commitment was formally recognized with official organic certification beginning with the 2023 vintage.

A Small Cellar for a Great Wine

The Cellar

A Small Cellar for a Great Wine

Like the vineyard itself, the winery at Clos Roskam is intentionally discreet — a small, semi-underground cellar nestled beneath our home. Naturally cool and perfectly stable, it allows us to remain constantly close to each wine as it evolves.

Precision guides every step. Small stainless-steel vats enable us to vinify each parcel separately, preserving the identity of every soil and exposure. Thirty-liter glass dames-jeannes are used for the most delicate press fractions, allowing for even finer selection.

The final blend is assembled after three months of barrel ageing, then matured for sixteen months in oak before bottling. Scale is limited; attention is not.

Clos Roskam 2022

Lively and so vibrant, so clean and clear, pure and focussed, dispelling the notion of Pomerol only creating plush and ripe wines in 2022. This is slick and sophisticated, almost light and delicate with a playful strawberry and red cherry elements, lifted acidity and linear profile. On the more bright and high acid side, with a tang to the fruit, but this will fine fans with its easy approachability.
